One of the most common and economical ways to install refractories is a process known as “gunning or gunnite”. This installation method uses a refractory aggregate, mixed with water to spray the material directly onto surface areas where refractories are required. Carolina Refractories produces the CAROGUN product line that includes fireclay, high alumina, low iron, and insulating gunning mixes. Gunning mixes provide labor and time-consuming advantages as well as a lower thermal conductivity, elimination of forms, high resistance to deterioration and easy coverage of irregular surfaces.
